Breakfast Smoothie - The Breakfast of Champions!

Breakfast on the go can be a challenge - well at least it used to be! I used to be the queen of coffee in a travel mug and out the door! Not surprisingly I then would find myself starving at 10am and reaching for a muffin or banana bread or something laden with fat and sugar to keep me going. NOT ANYMORE!

These  days smoothies are my go-to on busy days when I need to be up and at em but still want my day to start off right - and who doesn't want that? Protein, healthy fats and antioxidants! Everything I need to hit the day with sustained energy, decreased brain fog and feeling amazing! Seriously all you need is a blender, some fresh ingredients and 2-5 mins...

The Green Smoothie Recipe:

Serves 2

1 1/2 cups of almond milk

2 cups of baby spinach

1/2 cup of berries - I love blueberries and strawberries in mine

1/2 an avocado

ice (or if you have planned ahead freeze your berries in pre-portioned serves)

Optional - a squeeze of lemon juice or 2 drops of doTERRA essential oil

a sprinkle of cinnamon

Blend and serve (and enjoy because it's YUM)!

This is a yummy and guilt free way to start the day with nourishment and self care! If you feel like you need a little bit of extra sweetness (and sometimes when you are weaning off sugar you need to give yourself a little adjustment period) you can add a tiny bit of raw honey (if not vegan) or high quality maple syrup or coconut syrup. It is already naturally sweet from the berries but 1/2 a teaspoon will give it the extra sweetness and is really all you need. Eventually your tastebuds will adjust and you will find the natural sugar from the berries is really enough :-) Stay away from refined sugar and artificial sweeteners if you can - your body will thank you for it in so many ways :-)
